What Is Dental Bonding?
Bonding is a favored procedure for correcting a variety of dental imperfections including:
- Cracks or chips.
- Discoloration.
- Spaces between teeth.
- Mild tooth decay.
- Insufficient bite pressure.
Dental bonding can improve the aesthetic and health of your smile almost instantly! A quick repair may be all that you need, and bonding is a great economical solution.
How Does Dental Bonding Work?
Your dentist will examine the tooth in question to determine if bonding is the best course of action. If you both agree that bonding is a good solution, he will select the color of composite resin that most closely matches your smile.
Dr. Sheridan will roughen the outer layer of the tooth and apply an adhesive. He will shape the resin to fill in cracks, spaces, or other imperfections. When the bonding looks perfect, he will use a light to harden the bonding to the tooth.
The bonding process is often completely pain-free. However, you may be more comfortable with a local anesthetic if the case involves tooth decay or damage.
Is Tooth Bonding Affordable?
We often use dental bonding to make minor repairs or adjustments to your teeth. Bonding can often be a less expensive solution for repairing chipped teeth or for closing minor spaces between teeth. For additional information on dental bonding, give us a call.
How Long Does Dental Bonding Take?
Your dental bonding can be completed in a single visit! Bonding usually only requires an hour or two. For multiple teeth, you may need to schedule more than one appointment.
How Long Will My Bonding Last?
We utilize the finest materials to ensure that your bonding lasts for up to 10 years. For such a quick and easy solution, bonding is surprisingly durable!
Taking Care of Your Teeth After Dental Bonding
Continue to brush twice a day and floss at least once a day. We also recommend the following:
- Keep visiting us every six months so we can check on your oral health and your dental work.
- Don’t chew on hard candy or ice cubes.
- Avoid placing sharp objects in your mouth.
- Use a mouthguard when participating in sports.
- Keep your fingers out of your mouth – picking at the bonding material isn’t a good idea.
- Use a nightguard if you grind your teeth at night.
- Don’t use tobacco products.
- Try not to consume a lot of darkly pigmented food and drink.
You can also rinse your mouth with water after eating foods with high acidity to keep the acid from wearing at your tooth enamel.
Dental Bonding for a Better Look
While some cosmetic dentistry treatments can seem extensive and costly, dental bonding is a great alternative to improving your smile. We want to help all of our patients perfect their smiles so they can feel better about themselves.
Value and Investment
Cosmetic dentistry is also about value and investment. A dental implant can actually improve your oral health, and dental bonding can keep cracks and chips from becoming bigger, more intrusive problems. In addition to dental bonding, we offer dental veneers, teeth whitening, dental implants, and more!
